Professor Christian Cabrol, a pioneer of the heart transplant, died Friday morning in Paris at the age of 91, announced to AFP Iradj Gandjbakhch, one of his former collaborators.
Professor Cabrol carried out the first heart transplant in Europe in April 1968, four months after the historic one of Prof. Christian Barnard in Cape Town. This surgeon died at the Paris hospital of Pitie-Salpetriere, where he had made his transplant.
